My first thoughts before reading the book were not another self-help fitness book that I will never be able to follow or fit into my life. As I got into the book, I realized it was as if the book was for me; My life and outlook would need a few adjustments but I could really follow this program. I am not an all or nothing person so I can generally see how I can work things out to fit into my life. I really enjoyed how there are real stories of women that have done the program through the book. It was nice to see the progress other women have seen and it includes before and after pictures. I'll make a confession and say I read through all the stories before reading the book. The book is broken down into sections and chapters; I found it easy to read a chapter at a time. I don't usually have all that much time to read a lot in one sitting unless I stay up all night.
This book was different than any other fitness book I have read because it was thought provoking because it starts off with a section on mindset. Dustin Maher goes through how you need to change her mind and how you think about your body, set goals (both short term and long term, and to be real about where you are starting from and where you can reasonably see yourself in a week, month, or years time. There are sections in the back of the book to keep track of your measurement, goals, and positive affirmations about yourself. I thought this was a great way to start the program.
There is a section on nutrition. There is a lot of useful information snack ideas, recipes, meal options along with things to avoid and what things are good for you and why. I like how it is helpful with hints and what is best but that you should do what works for you. I appreciated that. I felt like it was for the every day person, instead of some real health nut that eats crazy things.
The next section is strength and burst training. I was a little skeptical at first whether his suggested exercise routine would work. I have to say though, the first time I did the suggest exercise routine, it kicked my butt. I was sore afterwards and hope to see real results. I believe this is a program I can stick with and enjoy. And for me that is saying a lot because I rarely, if ever, stick with a exercise routine because I hate it and don't have motivation. There are pictures and explanations with the exercises in the book to help get you started.
The last section is about environment and how important it is to have a fitness community and support system.
At the end of the book, there is a page about how to get some free bonuses that includes videos.
