Birchbox Review

I subscribe to a few monthly subscription boxes.  When I want to know more about a subscription company I find blog reviews to be extremely helpful, so I thought I would start a series for the boxes I get.

Today post is about the September Birchbox.  Birchbox is a monthly beauty sample box.  It costs $10/month and you are supposed to receive 4-5 samples.  The cool thing about Birchbox is that you can review the products you receive and earn 10 points per product.  100 points will give you $10 to spend in the online store where you can buy full sized versions of the products.  You also receive points for every dollar you spend in the store.  And full sized versions of samples ship free that month.

Here is what I received in my Birchbox:
  • Boscia Purifying Cleansing Gel
  • Color Club Birchbox Custom Polish
  • Dr. Jart + Water Fuse Beauty Balm SPF 25+
  • La Fresh Instant Body Soother
  • Twistband Birchbox Custom Lace Hair Tie
  • The Brush Guard

I was pretty happy with my box!  First of all, I love love love the nail polish.  Its a shimmery rose-silver metallic with a great formula.  One coat and I was done.  I also really like the Twistband.  I received a sample in my last box too and fell in love with it.  Plus the purple lace is really pretty.  I've also tried the Boscia cleansing gel.  It worked very well on my oily face without overdrying it.  The La Fresh body soothers were interesting.  You are supposed to use the wipe on your temples, neck, and shoulder to help relieve tension. They smell amazing (I love all things peppermint), but I don't think it is something I would use often.  Or really pay the money for.  But interesting to try a sample of.  The brush guards are chinese finger trap-like contraptions that you fit over your makeup brushed to help protect them.  It's really a smart idea, especially if you throw your brushes in the bottom of your makeup bag.

So the only two things I didn't like as much was the BB cream and the Maxwell coupon.  The BB cream is just too heavy for my skin.  It's a matter of personal preference so I can't speak to the quality of the product at all.  The second was an extra.  It is $25 dollars off of a $75 or more purchase at Maxwell.  I just didn't think it was that great of a value.  I would still have to spend $50 to use it.  That seems a little steep.  But it was an extra, so that's ok.

All in all, I really enjoy Birchbox on a whole.  This is my third box and I've been pretty happy so far.  I plan on continuing for awhile at least.  I like being able to try products I wouldn't normally or would even know about it.  And since I can't seem to stay with a product for any length of time, I like getting sample sizes.
